SDIT course at Mol

NMS has sent in an application to the Socrates Agency to let them organise at Mol a Socrates in-service training for teachers and environment-education workers ( April 24 to 30 2004 )
The aim is to explain the theoretical background of sustainable development and ICT in adult education to the SDIT partners.

Emphasis will be put mainly on a case study, more specifically of the Kempen region.
By study visits to some relevant companies and organisations, the participants will be able to see the influence of initiatives of sustainable development and ICT on the development of the Kempen.

Visits are planned to VITO, BEMT, KAMP C, Hidrodoe, Strategic Plan Kempen, Belgoprocess a. o.
We expect a go-ahead around Nov.1, after which the European promotion will start.

Only foreign participants can get subsidies from their Socrates Agency for course and travel expenses; Belgian participants must pay their own expenses. Problem? Go on reading!

BISEL course CYPRUS

NMS also sent in an application for a same kind of in-service training in the BISEL method to define the quality of river water.

You find more info on this method in the menu PROJECTS, resulting from a Comenius project
This Socrates course will take place May 15 to 21 2004 near the town of Paphos on Cyprus.
The field work will be done in two magnificent nature areas : the Akamas peninsula and the Troodos mountains.

On the Akamas peninsula Aphrodite already bathed , and now it is a nesting place for sea-turtles.The Troodos mountains are a forest region with the famous cedar valley and the Kykko convent, where Makarios began his career.

On the Akamas peninsula we will work together with the Environmental Studies Centre of the Cyprus Conservation Foundation at Kritou Terra. In the Troodos mountains we will be the guests of the Environmental Education Centre of the Pedagogical Institute of Nicosia in the village of Limethou.
The major training sessions will be led by professor Niels De Pauw, a water expert of world renown, and his lab for Aquatic Ecology of the University of Ghent.

This is not our test-case : in 1999 already, teachers from 22 different countries took part in similar in-service training.
A must for all water environment workers, with Aphrodite as the icing on the cake!
Flemish and Belgian people can enroll for this course, as soon as we get the go-ahead from the Socrates Agency.

A bit of patience, we keep you informed.
