SDIT: SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT & ICT

Title:

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AND MODERN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES IN ADULT EDUCATION (SDIT) Grundtvig 2 Socrates action

Partners:

  • Riga Technical University Distance Education Study Centre, Latvia, project co-ordinator
  • NMS (BE), Xgrant (NL), University of Messina (I) and Malta.

Purpose:

  • Creating a small-scale network for the co-ordination between the different partners.
  • Collecting and exchanging information and experience of two aspects of adult education: sustainable development and the availability of ICT for adult learners.
  • Analysis and implimentation of methods to improve the co-operation between local authorities and organisations for adult learning.
  • Common development of propositions for enhancing the situation, by the implementation of learning means in the form of CD-Rom and online learning.
  • Creating a frame for long term co-operation on the basis of the project results.

Progress and Activities

  • Kick-off meeting at Riga from Oct. 4th to 8th 2002: introduction to the partners from Italy, the Netherlands and Latvia. Presentation of the concept, first planning and agreements.
  • Project meeting for the project partners at Mol from Dec. 7th to 10th: presentations of the situation concerning sustainable development & ICT in adult education in each country. Report of the Johannesburg conference by a participant, presentation of SPLASH,the 3rd Youth Congress on Water, study visits to KHK and SPK: sustainable development (KILTO and SAM) and ICT in social promotions, further agreements on the project .
  • Participation in the EcoBalt 2003 conference at Riga (15 and 16 March) where the SDIT project was presented by Professor Ruplis and by W. Aerts (NMS); SDIT Project meeting (17 and 18 March) with the work planning, the task dividing and the preparation for the following work year.

Results:

  • Exchanging and storing of information on the project contents on the BlackBoard server.
  • Applying, within the Socrates programme, for a SDIT in-service training at Mol and for a BISEL training on Cyprus.
